Custom classifiers

Custom classifiers (/custom-classifiers) are classification dimensions you create — like "Region", "Product" or "Channel" — beyond the fixed axes (category and classification center). Each dimension has its own values, and a single bill can carry several dimensions at once.

"Create your own dimensions (e.g. Region, Product) and their values to classify your records."

Two levels: dimension and value

The catalog has two levels:

  • Dimension — the axis. It has only a name (e.g. "Region").
  • Value — each option within the dimension (e.g. "South", "Southeast"). It lives inside the dimension.

A dimension with no values shows up in the list marked "No values" — it exists, but classifies nothing until you add at least one value.

Fields

ValueValueRequired. E.g. "Southeast"

The screen

Management lives under Axes → Custom classifiers, in a table where each row is a dimension with its values shown as chips beside it.

  • Search by dimension name.
  • New dimension creates the axis; the values dialog adds, renames, activates/deactivates and deletes each value live.
  • A value can be activated or deactivated individually without leaving the dimension.

When no dimension exists yet, the screen shows the empty state: "No classifiers registered — Create dimensions like 'Region' or 'Product' and their values to classify your records."

Active and inactive

The Active flag exists at both levels, and the effect matches classification centers: deactivating does not delete.

  • An inactive dimension leaves the forms, but the history that already references it stays.
  • An inactive value disappears from the selector for new choices — but if a bill already uses it, it stays visible there as the selected value, so it never drops from the record.

Deleting

As with classification centers, the product turns deletion into deactivation when there is usage — there is no path that leaves records unclassified.

Value in use — no deletion: "Value is in use by records. Deactivate it instead of deleting."

Dimension in use — the dialog is "Classifier in use":

"This classifier is in use by records and cannot be deleted. Do you want to deactivate it?"

The button is "Deactivate". Deleting the dimension is only possible when none of its values is assigned to a bill.

Classifying a record

The "Custom classifiers" block appears in the payable, receivable and transaction forms — all three screens, and in each one's detail view too.

  • There is one selector per active dimension. Every active dimension is always visible.
  • The selection is one value per dimension (single-select) — unlike the classification-center split, here a bill is not divided across values.
  • The selector does "pick or create": type a value that doesn't exist yet and it offers to register it, creating the value in the dimension when you save the bill.
note

Classification does not automatically spread to installments 2 onward. When you publish an installment bill, the dimension stays on the anchor installment — the same behavior as the classification center. To apply it to several rows at once, use Classify selected in the Transactions, Payables and Receivables lists.

The advanced search for Transactions, Payables and Receivables has a single "Classifier" facet that gathers the values of any dimension. Check one or more values and the search returns the bills that carry them.

The same facet offers "No classifier", to find bills with no dimension at all. The facet only appears when at least one dimension exists.

Reports

Reports (normal and fiscal) support grouping by classifier: pick a dimension and each report row is one of its values, while bills without that dimension fall into "(no classifier)" — they never drop from the total.

CSV import

Unlike categories and classification centers, the CSV import creates the missing values.

  • Each active dimension becomes a column in the file, with the dimension name in the header.
  • On import, each row's value is looked up and created if it doesn't exist in that dimension.

The dimensions themselves are not created by the import — register them beforehand; the values, however, are born from the file.

In the API

The public API v1 exposes the catalog at /api/v1/custom-classifiers (dimensions, with their values under nested /{id}/values routes) under the finance.custom_classifiers scope (read) and finance.custom_classifiers.write (write).

On bills, the custom_classifications field rides payables, receivables and transactions: a count on the list, the full array on the detail, and, on write, you supply the value by id or by name (pick-or-create). See the API reference for details.

Fintera source

When the Fintera integration is active, classifiers and their values are imported from there (read-only). A bill's link names the value by text, resolved to the matching value in Smart Finance at import time. See Fintera integration.
